Preston: Why I was out early this week!

My wife is an alumnus of Oral Roberts University (ORU). When it was time for her son, Grant, and my step-son (and former TMS intern/extern G-Man) to choose a school we were fairly confident he would choose the school he truly loved - The Ohio State University.

Grant likely knows more history of OSU than the school historian.

Still, he honored his mom's wishes and agreed to visit ORU. He came back and announced he would take his talents to Tulsa and attend Oral Roberts University. His choice was met with tears because it was a prayerful, heartfelt decision.

I had been to ORU, too. Not a student, but as a guest of one of the school's Trustees - Sam Rudd. I was there when Oral Roberts retired as school President and handed the reigns over to his son, Richard. More on that in a moment.

I met Pastor Oral Roberts and a more humble genuine soul I had never met before...he was warm and kind in my time with him. It still remains a highlight of my life.

Things did not go well with Richard as President. He is no longer affiliated with the school in any official capacity. His sister remains on the board. But, thanks to an amazing gift by David Green and family, founder of Hobby Lobby, the school is back on solid financial footing and Grant is blossoming there.

This week Grant and I left Tallahassee and made pilgrimage to ORU for his junior year.

What follows are a few shots of the campus. ORU's mission is to mold the body, mind, and spirit. It's slogan - "Make No Little Plans Here" - speaks to challenging students (which come from all over the world and, I think, all fifty states) to dare to believe big.

I LOVE being on this campus and, perhaps, you have, or know, a young student who might want to visit one day.
