A bill that would end the shark fin trade in Florida is a step closer to becoming law.
Senate Bill 680 passed unanimously through the Commerce and Tourism Committee this week.
Jim Abernethy, a marine-life advocate and Palm Beach County scuba dive business owner, says Florida is the worst state for killing sharks.
"It doesn't matter where you live on planet Earth, we need to keep the animals that maintain that oceans healthy and balanced alive."
He says our state is a primary supplier of shark fins and most of that is done in the Miami area.
The bill has one more committee before it heads to the Senate and House floor.
