Former Florida Attorney General Bondi Takes Turn in Trump Defense

WASHINGTON -- Former Florida attorney general Pam Bondi told the U.S. Senate Monday afternoon that President Trump had every reason to be concerned about the Bidens and Ukrainian gas company Burisma.

Acting as a member of the president's defense team, Bondi said Burisma had a long history of corruption. Hunter Biden, son of presidential candidate Joe Biden, was a member of its board of directors.

Bondi, who grew up in the Tampa Bay area and formerly worked for the State Attorney's Office in Hillsborough County, called the Burisma hire "nepotism" and said that witnesses in the House impeachment hearings also characterized it as a "potential appearance of conflict of interest." She explicitly rejected the House managers' arguments that concerns about the Burisma situation were "baseless."
