RARE! FDR walking

This is home movie footage of the 1935 White House Easter Egg Roll on the South Lawn of the White House (begins at 0:53). Includes footage of President Roosevelt’s adapted walk to the South Portico to address the crowd. Filmed by Fred Hill and donated to the Franklin D. Roosevelt Library.

If you watch from the beginning you will see Mr. Hill's family and friends in random home movie scenes, likely from the 1935. Then it moves to the event at the White House.

What makes this so unique is Roosevelt suffered from polio and for him to walk, and even stand, required he endure a tremendous amount of pain. He felt it reflected weakness when he was shown struggling to walk so it was understood by the news media to never show him in that state.

Clearly, Mr. Hill knew nothing of the protocol and simply wanted to record his beloved President.
