Israeli Interior Minister Rips Tlaib

Lawmakers And Presidential Candidates Attend NAACP National Convention

Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib is not traveling to Israel after the Jewish state reversed course and said it will allow her to visit her elderly grandmother on the West Bank. The Michigan Democrat tweeted that conditions placed on her visit were oppressive. Tlaib accused Israeli officials of treating her like a criminal. Israel’s interior minister tore into Tlaib after the government granted permission for the trip in a bid to smooth over a diplomatic firestorm. “Apparently her hate for Israel overcomes her love for her grandmother,” Aryeh Deri tweeted.

Earlier this week, Israel had barred Tlaib and Minnesota Democrat Ilhan Omar from visiting Israel and Palestine. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel is open to criticism, but prohibits the entry of people who support boycotts of the Jewish state. Israel later said Tlaib could visit if the purpose was to visit her grandmother. She then said no to Israel's offer.
